Words of Life

My attention has been drawn to these three words, “WORD OF LIFE”. Jesus came into the world proclaiming that He was the Word of Life. And years before His coming, David spoke of clinging to the Word of Life, specifically when affliction strikes. After Jesus’ death and resurrection, we are told by Paul to hold fast to the Word of Life.
The terms that David and Paul use about the Word of Life are strong: cling and hold fast. I take it to mean this, we are to have a strong clenching grip upon the buoy as we are tossed to and fro by the merciless waves. And what is the buoy, the Word of Life - Jesus.
It is so easy for me to be deceived into believing that other things are what give me life. Like my health. If I suddenly am stricken with physical ailments, I give up hope so quickly, thinking that my health is what gives me life. But when did my perfect health ever give me true life? If I was afflicted with some form of sickness for the rest of my time on earth, I would still have an abundance of good Life! For true Life comes from the breath of God. David, found that when He was afflicted he looked not to himself but to God’s promises, laws, and Word. And that was what fulfilled him in his time of abundant need.
O Lord, allow me to learn how to be ever seeking of Your promises when I face trials of many kinds.
