Moving to Oregon?!

That's right! I now live among the corn feilds in bird country. My husband (of 9 months) and I have finally settled down in one of the bizarrest of places. It makes no logical sense why we would move to Eastern Oregon. No family, we don't know a single soul here. Why then? It is as simple as this: When God opens a door, you are given a choice to step through it.

I'll tell you the story of how we ended up in Vale, OR.

While in Alaska for the spring, we met an older gentleman who needed help hanging nets for the upcoming fishing season. Brady jumped at the opportunity to teach this skill, which he's very familiar with. A friendship was established with this kind fisherman/pilot and through conversation he generously offered us a plane, a house, and a job (in Oregon). The night this offer was made, Brady and I returned home, in complete bewilderment and also quite skeptical of this dream-like offer. Was this even possible? Since Brady was just a little lad, of 8 years, he's had the dream of flying inside of him. And now this dream could morph into reality? Prior to the summer our plans had consisted of, moving down to SoCal so that Brady could work construction to slowly save up for his flight training. But now we had other options it seemed. With no real solidified plans following the summer, we decided to take a leap of faith and move forward with the Oregon plan, which we strongly felt was a total "God Thing". And hey what was the worst that could happen? If everything fell through, we could pick up and move somewhere else. Right?

Let's fast-forward to two weeks ago.

The smell of onions wafted into our nostrils as we flew down the highway in our heavy laden car, full to the max of all our earthly possesions. Anticipation gripping both of us, weary travelers that we were. It had been quite a journey, driving 7 days down from Alsaska to SoCal, and then driving back up to Oregon. Both of us were excited to unpack our suitcases and shove them away for awhile. As we surveyed our surrounding scenery, our eyes took in the golden rolling hills. "Look, Sarah! We might be right next to that!" Brady excitedly pointed to a very out of place landmark. A rigid, rocky mountain, jutting up from the tall cornfields. As we approached our new home, a long driveway greeted us with a wall of cornstalks to our left. We hardly knew what to expect, only that the house had not been lived in for 5 years. We introduced ourselves to the neighbor almost immediatly, because we had heard rumors of him running people off with shotguns! We had no desire to get on his bad side. As we stepped in the frontdoor, we prepared ourselves for the worst. And that is exactly what it was, a disaster! Cobwebs, thick layers of dust, rotted food, mouse poop, old junk, you name it. The worst news was that the water pipes had burst under the house and hot water heater was broken. How on earth do you begin cleaning a house, in this condition, without water?!

That night Brady and I went straight to bed, too overwhelmed amd exhausted to tackle anything. We cuddled up in the least dirty room we could find and fell asleep. The next morning, we woke fresh and ready to conquer the impossible. With many runs for water and cleaning supplies in hand, we slowly began cleaning the house from top to bottom.

I'll spare you all the details...

2 weeks later.
•The house is clean.
•Brady has a new job as the airport manager.
•We have found a church.
•Brady has different options for flight instructors.
•And I'm starting my own cleaning business.

It's been a crazy journey thus far, from leaving my home in Spokane, my community of 5 years, to marrying my love, to journeying to Guatemala, and then commercial fishing in Alaska for the first time, to now living in Vale, Oregon. A whirlwind of a year! I look back and think, how can so much happen in just one year's time?

But through it all, I've seen God provide for Brady and I, in the smallest of ways to the most outrageous and unimaginable ways. I've seen Him lead and direct us, into unknown territories, yet He always arrives at our destination ahead of us. He continues to be GOOD and FAITHFUL!
