Interview with a Scorpion Victim.

Me: Brady what were you doing last night around 7PM?

Braden: I was watching an episode of “Modern Family”, with my wife, sitting on our bed.

Me: What happened next?

Braden: I felt something tickle my ear, so I swatted at it.

Me: What did you initially think it was?

Braden: This is too specific, it happened within a split second, I don’t remember.

Me: So you swatted this thing, and then what happened next?

Braden: I experienced one of the most horrific pains I have ever felt! Turns out it was a Scorpion! We both were jumping up and down as I was howling in pain.

Me: Was there any thought in your mind that this could be life or death?

Braden: No. I had read an article before coming to Guatemala, that said the scorpion bites were not fatal.

Me: What was your next move, after the sting?

Braden: I ran down the hill to the landlord’s house to see if he had an recommended treatments. He said, “Yes we will have to jab you in the heart with a huge needle!”

Me: Really?

Braden: Yes, he was joking of course, but I was too much in pain to realize it, immediately.

Me: so did he have any realistic healing methods?

Braden: Yes, he simply gave me a pill for the pain. And his wife had me eat two spoonfuls of honey.

Me: Where was your wife at this time?

Braden: Killing that stupid thing!

Me: Wow! That’s brave of her. So did you go back to your show?

Braden: We tried to, but we were both a little on edge. After about 30 minutes, we started watching “Modern Family” again.

Me: So you were able to finish the episode?

Braden: No! about 15 minutes later, a scorpion drops right next to Sarah.

Me: What was her reaction?

Braden: We were eating beans at the time. Her reaction was to distribute the beans evenly all over the bed.

Me: Eventful night!

Braden: The night had just gotten started! After the second scorpion, we settled back in to watching our show.

Me: So you were both sitting in the same place that the scorpions kept appearing?

Braden: Yes.

Me: Go on!

Braden: Half an hour later, Sarah was asleep, and I was finishing up another episode of "Modern
Family", when a third scorpion dropped from the ceiling.

Me: What happened next?

Braden: Well finally that caused us to investigate what was actually going on. So with a flashlight we investigated what was happening in the rafters above us. And we found a nest of scorpions packed into a corner!

Me: This nest was located right above your bed?

Braden: Yes! And when I tried to knock the scorpions down, two fell out and scurried away.

Me: Did you kill them?

Braden: After moving around the furniture, yes, we were able to find them and kill them.

Me: So don’t tell me you just went right back to sleep.

Braden: No we didn’t, we moved the bed into the middle of the room. And stayed up for the next hour just watching the ceiling.

Me: How were your nerves?

Braden: Frayed pretty thin at this point. Sarah suggested that we should go sleep down on the dock. At least that way scorpions wouldn’t be falling from above.

Me: So that’s what you did?

Braden: Yeah we packed up all our pillows and blankets and headed down to the dock.

Me: Did you get much sleep?

Braden: More than we would have if we were up on our bed. But it was really windy that night, so sleep was hit or miss.

Me: I heard you lost something in the water?

Braden: Yeah! At sometime in the night, the wind became so strong, it blew Sarah’s pillow into the water!

Me: How did you rescue it?

Braden: We fished it out with the oars from our kayak.

Me: Well quite an adventure you had!

Braden: Yeah! But it was worth it in the end, cause there we no clouds in the sky, so we had the best stargazing.

Me: Well thanks for sharing! And how is the scorpion bite now?

Braden: Anytime! It is all gone, just a little sore, but I’m still jumping at every shadow.
